Keyword Research to Maximize Ehow Earnings
–UPDATE– Let me take a minute to explain what these bars and numbers are showing you. On the far left you will notice a list of terms enclosed in brackets. These are EXACT terms. Meaning that people will type this EXACT term into the search engine. After that is the CPC. CPC or Cost Per Click is how much advertisers are paying, on average, when someone clicks on their ad. The higher the number the better. Next, you have advertiser competition. You want this bar to be almost fully green. Why? Because the more advertisers there are, the more ads there are. If you have something that has a $10.00 CPC but very low advertiser competition then you might only have one relevant ad display on your article. Not good. You want an abundance of relative articles to display on your article. Next we have local search and global search numbers. Local search is here in the US and Global is in the world and other languages. I usually rely on Local search volume only. This is where most of the confusion starts. Many people argue that you want to go for the highest volume search so that people will find your article and click on it. Great concept but poor execution. Let’s use “Stocks” as an example. Stocks has a local search volume of 368,000 a month. With all this traffic you will surely pick up some of those people and they will click on your ads, Right? Wrong! Go to google and do a search on “Stocks”. Do you see any Ehow articles on the First Page? Second Page? Third Page? I went all the way to the fifth page and still didn’d find a single Ehow article. Remember this! Now do a search on “Invest in Stocks”. It has a CPC of $7.04 and 1000 searches a month. Go to the second page and what do you see? An Ehow article! Now lets take a minute and digest this. Would you rather write an article using “stocks” as your keyword or “invest in stocks” as your keyword? Well lets compare them. Stocks has a CPC of $5.81 and 368,000 searches a month. Invest in Stocks has a CPC of $7.04 and only 1,000 searches a month. Stocks seems like the better choice right? More people seraching then surely more ad clicks. NO! Remember when we couldn’t even find an Ehow article on the first 5 pages on Google? Do you think anyone else will find one? I don’t think so. And realistacally, how often do you go past the 2nd page of search results? Hardly ever. Now lets think back to “invest in stocks”. An Ehow article was on the second page. People will go to the second page and click on the article to read it because its near the top. So while “Stocks” might have a search volume of 368,00 no one is going to find your article when they search for “Stocks”. It will be burried on the 100th page or worse. However, when they search for “invest in stocks”, they might stumble upon your article on the second page. The key is finding a niche topic that you can rank well in google. Thats basically it. Thats keyword research in a nutshell. Please leave comments if you want to know anything else! 14 comments to Keyword Research to Maximize Ehow Earnings |

Every time I read something from you, I learn more. I would have made the mistake you mentioned; I would have assumed “stocks” would be “the right choice”. Thanks again, Jeremy.
Hi Jeremy,
Followed you from eHow.
Jeremy, when you look for keyword competition, do you put the words in quotes or not? Like in the above example will pit invest in stocks in quotes while doing a search on Google?
I just did all the research I could and published this article
http://www.ehow.com/how_5151963_make-money-writing-associated-content.html
Could you tell me what I did wrong here? Although it’s indexed in Google, it’s no where in the first five pages also.
You can email me at reenaforweb@gmail.com
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Reena,
Do not enter the quotes around the words you are searching for. So “Stocks” would be typed in as Stocks on the keyword generator. There doesn’t appear to e anything wrong with your article. Some keyword terms are hard to break into the first page on Google. If I type in “Make Some Extra Money Writing ” you are the first result. If you don’t mind me asking, what is this article earning you a month? I would expect it to be somewhere between $3 to $10.
Jeremy,
Thanks for the advice. What I wanted to know how do you figure out the result competition?
Once you have to decide between keywords, do you take it to Google and check out the competition? Do you then put the keywords within quotes or not?
I just posted the article yesterday, so I still haven’t made a dime
What I usually do is search the keywords on Google. I don’t use the quotation marks. Ehow articles have a lot of power and will rank decently high on Google. However, if the first page is filled with major companies, you probably won’t be able to break into the first page of results. Once you do the search, look over to the right and you will see the results numbers. The more results, the more competition for your keywords.
Hello, can you please post some more information on this topic? I would like to read more.
I sure can. What specifically would you like more information on?
Greatings, Amazing! Not clear for me, how offen you updating your makemoneyonehow.com.
I plan on posting 2 to 3 times a week on here. I’m open to suggestions on post topics so if you have any, please post them. I will also be keeping track of my weekly earnings and my monthly earnings. Thanks!
What process, if any, do you use to promote your eHow articles? I am just so impressed with your abilities writing for eHow. So far, you have defied all of the traditional “rules” and are on pace to already make $450 a month.
Believe it or not, I do not do any promotion on my articles. I will be doing a post on my beliefs on this later tonight. Please check back later and read the post.
Thanks!
Jeremy,
Great advice in this article. I like how you compare “stocks” to “invest in stocks” and how much more beneficial it can be to choose 1 over the other…. if you have a second, take a scan over “how to join the secret service” – I’m a 3yr Secret Service Veteran and wrote this article (http://www.ehow.com/how_5137829_join-secret-service.html) to help candidates land their dream job with this prestigious organization.
Do you see anything wrong with the tags? Would you do anything differently?
Thanks so much for your time.
Jeff –
Your article looks great! From what I can tell, you have made no mistakes on it. Everything seems to be fine. I really enjoy your writing style as well. The ads that are displaying are mostly relevant. Whenever I checked, there was an ad for zits on the side. However, this might change next month because companies have a set budget on advertising expenses. Whenever they hit this mark, the ads shut off. However, I would leave the article as it is.
